1956 Norton 350cc Manx is a British racing motorcycle that was made from 1947 to 1962 by Norton Motors Ltd. A Norton had contested every Isle of Man TT race from the inaugural 1907 event through into the 1970s, a feat unrivaled by any other manufacturer, and the development and honing of the Manx racing motorcycle was another step in this racing achievement. Over-head cam Nortons enjoyed unparalleled success at the Isle of Man since the debut win in 1927 of the CS1. Throughout the 1930's the Cammy Norton won most of the TT and Manx Grand Prix races, with a double OHC first appearing in 1937. After the war the DOHC machines featured plunger rear suspension and the famous Roadholder front fork and were named Manx. They continued to dominate the racing scene, but the threat of the multi-cylinder European machines was a major concern to the small Birmingham factory.
